American Petroleum Institute Releases GHG Reporting Standard

The biggest story of the past week is the release of greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting standards by American Petroleum Institute, the biggest U.S. O&G industry association. The new standards encourage voluntary disclosure of Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions, with some focus on tracking reductions and describing independent verification procedures. Read more here.

EQT Joins OGMP 2.0

EQT Corporation, the largest producer of natural gas in the United States, has signed up to participate in the OGMP 2.0 reporting framework. To date, most signatories to OGMP 2.0 have been European Energy companies, with much slower uptake in North America. This may signal a change. Read the press release here.

International Gas Union Features Methane Emissions

Issue 4 of Global Voice of Gas magazine, published by International Gas Union, is all about eliminating methane. Published on June 21st, this month features top down vs. bottom-up measurement techniques, Methane Guiding Principles, MiQ, OGMP 2.0, EU regulations, and more. Get it here.

CATF Publicizes Leaky Gas Infrastructure in Europe

The Clean Air Task Force (CATF) non-profit has been running around Europe with an infrared optical gas imaging (OGI) camera – capturing unsanctioned videos of methane leaks from O&G infrastructure and making them public. The European Union currently lacks regulations preventing methane leaks from O&G – but rules are expected soon. Read more here.

On June 8th, Highwood Emissions Management, in collaboration with Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada (PTAC) and Gas Technology Institute (GTI) hosted an interactive mini conference to explore Highwood’s new report on voluntary emissions reduction initiatives.
